These modules
are direct replacements for the ignition control unit fitted to
all Boxers equipped with electronic ignition. They are fully compatible
with the original factory units.
NOTE
during the 1980's BMW changed the actual ignition module but kept
the same part number (12 14 2 325 284). We offer both the earlier
and later units.
How to tell the difference:
The older unit does not come with the heatsink installed.
The center to center distance of the mounting holes is 2.15
inches. (we supply this unit with heatsink grease).
The newer unit comes with the heatsink installed. The
center to center distance of the mounting holes is 2.35
inches.
Both units use the same connector, and are functionally and electrically
identical.
